“Sometimes it seems like we’re all living in some kind of prison. And the crime is how much we hate ourselves. It’s good to get really dressed up once in a while and admit the truth: that when you really look closely, people are so strange and so complicated that they’re actually… beautiful. Possibly even me.”
After years of flitting around it, I finally started watching My So-Called Life. It popped up on the Netflix/Roku option a few weekends ago and I’ve already greedily devoured the entire season. The series truly lives up to everything I expected: the gorgeous cinematography places it in the same league as feature-length films and the introspective observations about clarifying, revising and fumbling towards your identity still ring true. Especially for me.
